Scanning Services

While digital photography has eliminated much of the need for film scanning, many of you still have photography that you'd like to put online. Our scanning services can take your prints, artwork, or 35mm slides or negatives and turn them into high resolution digital files in any format (TIFF,JPEG,PNG etc.) you wish. In addition to standard scanning, we can apply techniques that can actually improve the color, exposure, and remove blemishes. Print scanning is limited to originals no larger than 8.5" x 14".

There are three service options available - Standard and Premium film scanning and Print scanning. We offer custom file naming and strongly recommend, backup copies of CD's or DVD's. You can also request custom resolution/output sized files for your originals or additional sets in different sizes.

We offer three cropping options:

• No Crop - Retains a thin border from the slide mount,negative edge, or white print border. For those who want to crop their own images during post-processing.
• Crop - Crop away slide mount, negative, or print border. However, with older slide mounts with rounded corners, you will lose a millimeter or so of image area in height and width.
• Full Frame (for old slide mounts with rounded corners only) - Crop away only the border - our unique blending process "touches up" any black artifacts left from slide mounts with rounded corners. This leaves you with all of your original image intact.

As you can see from the lists below, pricing is based on original type, service level, quantity, and output resolution. We offer four true optical output resolution options:

For print scanning we use a state-of-the-art flatbed scanner and for film scanning, we use a Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED scanner with Digital ICE (infra-red surface dust and defect elimination technology). Digital ICE technology is not available for print scanning.

Your originals and digital photos are returned to you on CD (or DVD for large projects) by certified mail. We use only the highest quality storage media. Extra media backup copies and additional custom resolution/output sizes are available.

• Free low resolution JPEG image copies of all images
• Burn images to CD or DVD disks

• Scans at 8-bits per channel, sRGB color space, RGB color mode, with choice of 300 or 600 DPI.
• Custom naming option available
• Image Rotation for portrait format images
• No Crop, Full Frame, or Complete Crop options(for slides/negatives)
• Moderate touch-up, exposure and color correction
• Photo tilt rotated to correct vertical (requires cropping - only done if image composition is not compromised)
• Simple editing, red-eye correction, severe blemishes, spots, scratches removed
• Burn images to CD or DVD disks

We can generally make a scan look at least as good as the original and almost always better. However, originals that are excessively faded, dirty, under- or over-exposed may be beyond hope of acceptable restoration.
